“The Science of Sound”
What needs to happen for sound to exist? What is vibration and how does it affect the quality and tone of the sound. What is pitch and how is pitch adjusted in the percussion family? Dynamic quality is affected by velocity and mass – how does that apply to instruments of the percussion family? How do our ears process sound and what are those decimal and Hertz levels we can not hear? Pre-concert lectures prepared students for a journey through the history and world of percussion led by the Jim Royle and Brian Ente Percussion Ensemble.
