Young Persons’ Concerts are designed to:
- Educate and enhance students’ understanding of live classical music played by internationally acclaimed artists from around the world
- Build concert audiences of the future
- Support on-line arts education with live and virtual events
- Build performance skills in Youth Musicians
Music for Youth presents cellist James Kim and Emerging Artist Harry Tao. May 4th, 4 pm at the Greenville Community Church in Scarsdale.

All are invited to attend a beautiful afternoon concert with the extraordinary cellist James Kim. Donations are accepted at door and registration is encouraged. The public is invited to stay for the masterclass which will follow the performance.
Lauded by The New York Times for his “admirable purity of tone and accuracy,” James Kim has appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Wallonie Royal Chamber, and Juilliard Orchestras working with conductors such as David Zinman, Michael Sanderling, Alexander Shelley, Keith Lockhart, Frank Braley, Tan Dun, Julian Kovatchev, and Benjamin Zander onstage at Carnegie Stern Auditorium, Boston Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kim has given solo recitals at Carnegie Weill Hall, Seoul Arts Center IBK Hall, Midday Masterpieces Series at the Greene Space, McGraw Hill Young Artist Showcase hosted by Robert Sherman, Beautiful Thursday Series at Kumho Art Hall, Garden City Chamber Music Series curated by Bruce Adolphe, James Kim with Friends at Music Space Camerata Paju, Tuesday Series at Seoul National University, and Faculty Artist Series at the Performing Arts Center of University of Georgia.
In 2025, he joined pianist Liza Stepanova and violinist Itamar Zorman as a member of the Lysander Piano Trio. Kim holds an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Manhattan School of Music. His former teachers include Susan Moses, János Starker, Laurence Lesser, Aldo Parisot, Joel Krosnick, and Philippe Muller. Kim currently serves as Assistant Professor of Cello at University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music.
Cellist Harry Tao is a 10th grader at Wilton High School in Wilton, CT. Harry has many awards for numerous competitions, including 1st place in the 2023 Hamden Symphony Orchestra’s Young Musicians Concerto Competition, 1st place in the 2023 Danbury Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition, First Prize Winner in the 2023 VIVO International Music Competition, 3rd place in the 2024 International Grand Music Competition, Silver Prize winner in the 2022 International Young Artists Solo Competition, Finals in the 47th Hartford Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition, 2nd place in the 2024 Marianne Liberatore Instrumental Competition, and the 2nd place winner in the 2022 American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Han Chen. Edouard Ferragu
Join us for an afternoon of spectacular music featuring pianist Han Chen, a fearless performer with seemingly limitless imagination and possessed with uncanny energy.
Edouard Ferragu, the MFY Emerging Artist will open the program. Han will conduct a MasterClass open to public following the concert. A Gold Medalist at the 2013 China International Piano Competition and a prizewinner at the 2018 Honens International Piano Competition, Mr. Chen has also been praised by Gramophone as “impressively commanding and authoritative” and further cited by The New York Times for his “graceful touch,” “rhythmic precision” and “hypnotic charm.”
His program will include: The Chopin: Fantasie-Impromptu, Op. 66, Florence Price: Fantasie Nègre in E minor, Schumann: Fantasiestücke, Op. 12 and the Scriabin: Fantasy in B minor, Op. 28.

Three talented musicians; Cedar Newman, Sara Hoppa, and Andrew Maskoff, will come together to fill the sanctuary with beautiful music on March 7th at 7 pm. This concert is open to the public and is a wonderful opportunity to introduce youth to three individuals who have dedicated themselves to their passion. They will take you on their journey of discovery, wonder and delight. The concert is free, donations are welcome at door. A light reception will follow concert.
Music for Youth and the Norwalk Youth Symphony present Daniel Pettrow, A Masterclass in Performance Prep for Musicians
5-7 pm Sunday, April 30th at the Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk CT

Music for Youth and the Norwalk Youth Symphony are hosting an afternoon masterclass workshop on Performance Preparation for musicians. The public is invited to come to this workshop which will feature MFY emerging artists and a quartet from the NYS.
Daniel Pettrow is a director, actor and teacher based in New York. He frequently focuses on new and experimental creations while fostering collaborations with artists from different disciplines. He has been Director of Performance and Communication Training and Drama Teacher for the Heifetz International Music Institute since 2012.
